Eugene Von Bruenchenhein
(Marinette, Wisconsin, 1910-1983)

When Eugene Von Bruenchenhein died in 1983, he left thousands of works of art in the basement of his tiny Milwaukee house. Only the artist, his wife Marie, and a few others knew about the work. Included in this cache of photographs, paintings and sculpture were hundreds of fetishized photographs of Marie, the subject of these three portraits. She often posed in exotic costumes or in the nude, and often took on the role of goddess, seductress or movie star.
